A portrait miniature of a lady called, Miss Turner of Uxbridge, wearing a white dress with gold trim and braiding and a white plumed hat over her hair worn à la conseilleur.
Watercolour on ivory, gilt-metal frame surrounded with interlocking ribbon detail, alternating with seed pearls and blue enamel decoration.
Oval, 64mm (2 1/2in) high

 

Notes…The present portrait is an edited version of a larger, rectangular miniature of the sitter depicted three-quarter-length seated, holding a book. Richard Crosse’s leger records that on 20 February 1786 he ‘received of Miss Turner for her 3rd size £12 12s’.
