A portrait miniature of a gentleman called, Isaac Blackburne (1759-1830), wearing a blue coat, white waistcoat, cravat and stock, his hair powdered.
Watercolour on ivory, gold frame, the reverse glazed to reveal plaited hair.
Oval, 72mm (2 13/16in) high

 

Notes…The third son of Thomas Blackburne of Orford Hall and Ireland Green of Childwall Hall, Isaac Blackburne followed in his father’s footsteps and became High Sheriff of Lancaster in 1803. In 1793, he married an heiress, Alice Kerfoot and the couple had five sons and five daughters.
